Acqua di Parma – Colonia Futura

When I discovered the luxury Italian fragrance house of Acqua di Parma, it wasn’t surprising that I instantaneously felt a connection due to my love of Italy. Their fragrances seem to capture the very essence of what this country is about, evoking many special memories for me. Despite ever-changing trends, Acqua di Parma’s renowned reputation, unique history and quality of fragrances have ensured that it still stands out as an icon within an extremely crowded market. Over the years they have added to their extensive range, tailoring it to the more modern audience, yet still harnessing their traditional charm.

Acqua di Parma has recently expanded their Colonia universe with a new fragrance, Colonia Futura. More than just a fragrance, this latest addition represents the sustainability manifesto of this historic Italian Maison and is the first Colonia made with 99% natural ingredients. This is also reflected in its packaging which has been altered to respect this sustainable approach and is now completely recyclable.

From its opening notes, Colonia Futura unleashes a vibrant burst of bitter freshness. Lemon and Grapefruit provide the uplifting citrus elements, whilst a powerful dose of Bergamot and a spicy injection of Pink Pepper combine to exude a luminous and energetic start. The citrus aroma billows from the skin as if the zest of citrus fruits have been torn, their sprightly oils dispersing in the air.

As the vibrancy mellows, it ensues a rich aromatic heart where glimmers of the traditional elements of Acqua di Parma start to appear. Clary sage with its distinctive herbaceous tones combines with the Lavander to unleash a classic fougére, undulating to a more herbal blend rather than a soapy scent. The underlying sweetness of Lavander helps to balance the intense earthiness of the Clary Sage, allowing it to not take over completely.

I was a little concerned that the formulation would transform into an old fashioned aroma but the introduction of Vetiver brought a smokey and woody aspect to it. This conveyed a new dimension and depth to the fragrance, one which cradled the other notes beautifully to create a perfect mix of classic and contemporary. The Eau de Cologne composition of Colonia Futura is strong but fleeting, however it makes a great everyday fragrance that can be reapplied throughout the day for an instant boost of energy. Although most colognes are associated with sunnier seasons, it’s fresh yet spicy nature means that it is perfect for any time of the year.

Throughout the month of December (2020) Acqua di Parma will be donating 100% of Colonia Futura net revenue from UK e-commerce to The Princess Trust with their new #supportourfuture campaign. The donations will be used to fund programmes developed by The Princes Trust which provide basic life skills to the younger generation, providing them with the motivation they need to succeed in jobs, education and training. So not only are you buying a beautiful fragrance but you are also contributing to such a worthy cause that will benefit the youth in years to come.
