At the moment, we all need a little sparkle and light in our lives, so when I came across fragrance house Atelier Des Ors it was as if fate had provided me with the perfect antidote. Described as ‘Perfume with Poetry’ Atelier Des Ors was created by the artistic Jean-Philippe Clermont and launched back in 2015. This exclusive fragrance house sought out to create a range that captured the true heritage of French Haute Parfumerie, one which uses only the finest and most beautiful raw materials available. With the creative expertise of perfumer Marie Salamagne, the fragrance house has built a collection of truly exquisite scents which I was very happy to explore.
Nuda Veritas is simply a joy to experience even before you have sprayed it onto the skin, due to its attractive and sophisticated presentation. As you lift the bottle from its case, the design is extremely distinguished and refined, making it such a pleasure to handle. The brands’ sea horse emblem is imprinted in the cap which is weighty yet gracefully shaped. The vessel is backed by beautiful cut glass and within the perfume, tiny flakes of gold float majestically, each one reflecting the warm flecks of light that sparkles through it. The gold flakes, however, aren’t just for show, they also emphasise the brand’s concept of the noble raw ingredients used in their collection.
The white collection was launched in 2018 and is composed of a trio of fragrances inspired by three works of art; The Ode To Joy poem by Friedrich Schiller, 9th Symphony of Beethoven and the Beethoven Frieze which all relate in some way to the pursuit of happiness. The Triptych of fragrances can be enjoyed alone, but in their entirety tell a story, each one representing a different stage in the journey of obtaining happiness.
The three fragrances in the white collection consist of: Nuda Veritas (Naked Truth), Crepuscule Des Ames (Twilight of the Souls) and Choeur des Anges (Choir of Angels). The beginning of the spiritual quest for happiness starts with Nuda Verita*, which funnily enough was the one that I gravitated towards straight away.
From the initial spray, Nuda Veritas unleashes a juxtaposition of intensity and delicacy, its citrus vibes settling to reveal a pure floral aroma with an almost breezy quality. It immediately harks back to a memory of mine, as I took shade in a beautiful orange grove in Seville. The flurry of the warm spring breeze cascading over the garden shook the delicate orange petals, its citrusy floral aroma descending to the ground. It is because of this that the first impression resonates with me, transporting me to that very moment of relaxation, sunshine and warmth.
As the fragrance continues to develop, those white floral notes truly begin to flourish into a warm diffusive heart. A subtle honey-like aroma makes its presence known, its sweetness tamed by the green undertones of that floral bouquet. I also get a sense of a delicious soft apricot basking in the sun, it’s soft fruity scent trailing in the air. The addition of Tiare Flower adds softness and creaminess, enhancing those other delectable combination of notes and allowing them to reveal themselves in the most beautiful way.
This dainty and graceful fragrance settles on the skin leaving a soft, sweet and musky dry down whilst the elevating airy quality continues to hover. For me, Nuda Veritas has a quality that incites moments in life that bring a sense of peace and tranquillity to the soul. The first sight of a spring flower, the feeling of warm rays of sunshine on your skin, the glimpse of a blue sky. Its purity and lightness induce a joy and happiness in me which makes it an absolute pleasure to wear. It may not be well suited to this time of year (winter), however if you need a little light in your life or a fragrant bolster to your dreary winter morning, Nuda Veritas is the perfect remedy.
