From as far back as I remember I have always known my hair to be fine, thin and flyaway. It wasn’t until I hit my early thirties where I began to notice a gradual thinning and receding of my hairline. Navigating my way through a deluge of thickening products and shampoos, I often became exasperated with substandard products that promised the earth. Hair loss is a sensitive subject, not just for me but for the millions of other men and woman in the UK that suffer from this condition. Therefore, I have been continuously looking for a product that doesn’t just temporarily thicken hair, but one that stops the problem in its tracks and prevents further hair loss.
I recently came across Sons, who provide a range of innovative men’s prescription and non prescription products to tackle different issues, including; gut, brain, immunity and hair loss. Kindly, I was sent their non-prescription combo plan which is geared towards individuals who are experiencing the early stages of hair loss. The pack contains a three prong attack to hair loss which includes a DHT blocking shampoo, a topical solution and a Biotin pill supplement. DHT Blocking Shampoo
I can’t tell you how many thickening shampoos that I have purchased in the past that I have immediately threw away, and I hate to waste anything! Whilst they most certainly do the trick, they don’t take into account someone with fine flyaway hair. Whilst not exclusively a thickening Shampoo this product does seem to improve the density of my hair, without coating the strands in product which thereby avoids any flat lifeless hairstyles. Formulated with Saw Palmetto, this ingredient is known to reduce levels of the hormone (DHT) which causes hair loss. In addition to this, it also contains Argan oil, Iron and Vitamin B3 which has helped to keep my hair soft, strong and shiny. In only a short while, my hair not only feels healthier, I’ve also noticed a reduction in the amount of hair that falls out in the shower.
Minoxidil 5% Topical Solution
The Topical Solution supplied in the pack includes Minoxidil 5% which is said to increase blood flow and oxygen in vessels which in turn reactivates and revitalises shrunken hair follicles. This product is very easy to use, having a long narrow nozzle which reaches the areas on the scalp that you are trying to treat. Personally, I concentrate on each side of the hairline and my crown area. A few sprays of the treatment is all that is needed (read patient instructions) and massage the solution into the scalp. At first I experienced a slight tingling on the scalp but this diminished after continued use. As this product takes around 6-12 months to notice any benefits, I have still to see any improvement but I will keep you all up-to-date!
Biotin Supplements
Also known as Vitamin B7 or Vitamin H, this easy to take supplement promotes healthy and stronger hair by stimulating Keratin production. Although this ingredient can be obtained through food, I’m the first one to admit that I do not always stick to a healthy balanced diet. So, I was glad to see it included within the non-prescription pack in the form of a convenient pill. I take one pill each morning with breakfast and feel happy in the fact that I’ve supplemented my body to help my hair from the inside.
I’ve only been using the products for a over a month now and I am very excited to see the improvement and progression in my hair quality and density over time, of which I hope to share with you in the future. So far I’m quite impressed by the quality of the products, the convenient subscription service and the three prong approach to helping me conquer an issue that often plays on my mind. I may not be able to do anything about the hair I have lost, but at least I know I can hold onto the hair that I have for much longer.
