Greenley – Parfums de Marly

Recently launched in April 2021, Greenley by Parfums de Marly couldn’t have come at a better time. After such an arduous year full of restrictions and confinement this fragrance is an instant spray of relief. It almost conjures up thoughts of opening a window after a long winter and allowing that rush of fresh spring air to envelop the room. It exudes a sense of freedom that we have all intensely craved, transporting the wearer to a natural landscape that bursts with life, full of lush green foliage. Like all Parfums de Marly bottles, Greenley’s also radiates an air of sophistication, luxury and opulence. The elegant transparent green vessel is embellished with the Parfums de Marly emblem and majestically crowned with a solid etched silver top.

From the moment you spritz the skin with the refreshing elixir of Greenley, you immediately experience an infusion of vibrant energy. Sicilian Bergamot comes to the forefront as if the fruit has just been peeled and its sweet and spicy zest disperses in the air. As the effervescent fizz dissipates the fragrance begins to give way to a fruity composition. Its aroma brings to mind a tree of fresh green apples glistening with the droplets of a recent spring rain shower. As I sink my teeth into the apple’s skin it releases those tart and sour nuances, transcending into a juicy sweet elixir as I reach its white flesh. That crispness slightly deviates with the injection of mandarin but still remains green with its neroli-like undertones. Before it evolves into a complete fruity composition a veil of Cashmere Wood weaves its way through the scent. This multifaceted note brings a smooth woody and musky aspect to the fragrance, leading the wearer perfectly into the next array of notes.

The scent ignites my imagination further with its impressive heart notes which include Cedarwood and Petitgrain. I almost imagine reaching a forest, peeling back the branches of a tree and wandering into its dense wilderness. The aroma deepens into a woody work of art, igniting notions of cracking branches beneath my feet, luscious ferns and the peppering of pine in the air. Living in Scotland and being a lover of nature, never before has a scent resonated with me so much. A scattering of Pomarose harks back to those initial fruity notes in the beginning whilst combining with violet to add a slightly floral, powdery nuance to the blend.

The dry down of Greenley is simply stunning, offering a soft and smooth skin scent without losing that greenness that runs permanently through its DNA. It is here where you wander back into that verdant forest with the addition of Oakmoss, picking up the dry woody aromas of bark, moss and sap. Although Greenley is a fresh fragrance a little warmth seeps in the base with the inclusion of Musk and Amberwood. These additions arouse a vision of sunlight flickering through the leaves, warming the forest floor below to reveal its earthy aromas.

Greenley is a distinguished and elegant fragrance that provides a subtle reminder of nature no matter where you might be. Its prolific infusion of natural energy is the perfect antidote to days when you may need a boost to the soul. Greenley is a true burst of aromatic freshness that impressed me from beginning to end.
