Elegantes London – Amber Wood

I fell in love with Elegantes London immediately after laying eyes on this fragrance brand during a visit to London in 2019. Adorning a Lalique table on the second floor of Fortnum and Masons; Elegantes’ unique flacons glimmered in the light, filled with a golden elixir, like a treasure waiting to be discovered. I have been lucky to experience a few lavish fragrances over the years, but Elegantes goes beyond luxury to create unique and creative fragrances that are exquisite works of art. Established by husband and wife duo Thomas and Dagmar Smit, this exquisite fragrance house is a culmination of the couple’s vast experience working in the world of luxury, travel and design. Along with renowned Perfumer Julien Rasquinet and a number of exceptional creative individuals, they have constructed the finest and rarest collection of fragrances of the highest quality.

The first thing that caught my attention was the elegantly crafted crystal flacons which hold each of the exclusive fragrances. These brilliant-cut masterpieces have been designed by Waltersperger, a French master glassmaker with over 100 years experience. The feminine range are housed in a clear vessel of sophisticated swirling crystal, where the masculine range exudes a more angular form, representing the characteristics of black quartz. Both are outstanding in their own right, which makes purchasing these fragrances a truly exceptional experience. Along with Flacon, each purchase comes with an individually numbered card, allowing you to register your purchase and become a member of Club Elegantes. Members receive private invitations to VIP events and new launches.

With a plethora of fragrances to choose from I was extremely honoured to try Amber Wood; a unisex fragrance from The Heritage Collection, described as exotic elements from the East. From the moment I applied the fragrance, Its precious ingredients were immediately felt, its lustrous opulent consistency coating the skin. The initial spray of Amber Wood is unequivocally beautiful, exuding an array of delicate spices that fluctuate between the warm splendour of Saffron to the fresh zestful characteristics of Pink Pepper. The Cardamom oil unquestionably takes precedence, resinating from the skin and bringing an almost cooling sensation with its resinous eucalyptus-like aromas.

It isn’t long before a beguilingly addictive cloud of Iris surfaces, its billowing sweet and powdery accords enveloping the senses and taming those initial spicy facets. A delicious sweetness does emerge from the sumptuous depths of this constantly surprising scent, but not once does it be- come overbearing or cloying. The fragrance develops into such a warm and comforting base with its distinguished woody characters. A sultry lacing of dark and rich Oud adds further depth supporting the other accords without entirely taking over. The dry-down is undeniably stunning and I couldn’t help but constantly take in the beautiful aroma from my skin.

Amber Wood took me on the most spectacular and unexpected fragrance journey, one which oozed refinement and sophistication from the beginning to the very end. The word luxury is frivolously banded about these days, so it isn’t often that you come across an item that truly exudes that exceptional level of prestige. There is no question that on days when I crave that little sense of extravagance, a spritz of this fragrance provides me with the perfect antidote. The Elegantes collections are not just perfumes, they are scented works of art encapsulated in their very own exquisite vessels. Due to the flacon’s being reusable each one is a timeless keepsake that would be a proud addition to any fragrance collection and one that can be enjoyed for years to come.

  1. What an exquisite sounding perfume and I’m loving the warm sound of the saffron. Absolutely decadent design with the bottle too. What a gorgeous gift this would make.
