Located in the heart of the rolling countryside of Perth and Kinross, at only around 30 miles from Edinburgh, is the beautiful Lodge at Fossoway Stables. This tranquil self-catering accommodation houses two guests and sits on an elevated position overlooking an abundance of nature with fields, hills and trees as far as the eyes can see.
Owners Karen and Chris, who stay onsite and run the large country estate, have ensured the Lodge has everything you need for a truly relaxing stay. The location of the lodge makes it an ideal base to visit many stunning areas around this part of Scotland.
As soon as you enter, you can immediately sense that welcoming country lodge aesthetic. The lounge, dining and kitchen are all combined and provide a small yet functional space that has all amenities you need for a perfect self catering stay. The lounge area has a beautiful Chesterfield sofa strewn with sumptuous Adamsbro cushions. The lounge are provides the ideal cosy place to kick back, read a book or watch TV and there are plenty plush throws around to make the space even more comfortable. The fast and reliable WiFi keeps you connected to the outside world and is perfect if you are working remotely and need a quiet place to work.
The adjoining kitchen with cooker, fridge and dining amenities is all you need to produce a delicious meal and with a few supermarkets nearby you don’t have to worry about running out of supplies. The lodge also kindly provides essential condiments, basic dried goods and a great selection of tea’s and coffee’s to get your stay off to a great start.
Lots of surrounding farms means you can easily pick up fresh eggs, produce etc and enjoy the culinary delights of the local area. One of my favourites have to be the Perthshire strawberries which are always plump, sweet and juicy (when in season of course) and I can’t get enough of them.
A small dining table ensures you can sit and eat your meal comfortably but can also double as a good place to set up your laptop if working remotely. I especially loved sitting here, looking out to the view and enjoying a well deserved glass of wine after a long walk.
As well as a selection of family games and DVD’s to choose from there is a variety of good reading material. One of the many books you will find here at a the lodge is ‘The Art of Coorie’ by Gabriella Bennett.
‘Coorie’ in Scottish means to snuggle or nestle and Fossoway Stables have definitely managed to encompass this in their lodge in every way. From lots of cosy scatter cushions, throws in different textures, furniture accented with wood and quirky art that reflects the surrounding nature.
The Coorie theme continues in the bedroom with one of the most comfortable beds, I have slept in. The mattress and duvet cover is like sinking into a cloud, with the warm lighting making it the perfect indulgance to lay back at night, enjoy a book and really absorb the peace and quiet of the area.
This lodge also houses an en-suit bathroom with a large walk-in shower. This spacious bathroom was filled with Scottish products from Scottish Fine soaps.
What surprised me was the constant supply of hot water and the excellent shower pressure (something which you don’t get in some cities). Fluffy towels, toiletries, face cloths and toilet paper are all provided during your stay.
The surrounding grounds of the lodge are beautiful and filled with an abundance of nature. In the morning, it’s great to look out and the majestic horses grazing in the nearby fields and I loved the little chickens that wander aimlessly around the grounds.
There are an array of walks in the area to enjoy which lead to the beautiful villages of Crook of Devon and Yets o’Muchart.
One of my favourite walks was was going from the lodge to nearby Rumbling Bridge. Here you can wander through the woods and a gorge where you can walk over wooden bridges that straddle across the tumbling river.
There are also a number of places of interest nearby which are only a shirt drive away. Such places as Glen Devon which has a series of beautiful walks through enchanting pine forests that lead to fantastic views across the landscape.
If you are up for a slice of luxury why not visit the renowned Gleneagles Hotel which is only 12 miles from the lodge. Wander their beautiful grounds, enjoy some afternoon tea or have a drink in one of their many bars.
High above Dollar Glen is the historic Castle Campbell built back in the 1400’s. I was truly taken aback by it’s dramatic location and surrounding scenery. With lots of nearby walks along the river and through the woods it is a fantastic day out.
The lodge at Fossoway Stables is the perfect home away from home experience. It’s warm, cosy, inviting and the extremely friendly owners are always on hand to help with anything to make your stay extra special.
