Dali Haute Parfumerie – Fabulous Tian Shan

Inspired by the creations of surrealist artist Salvador Dali is the fascinating and imaginative fragrance house, Dali Haute Parfumerie. Consisting of three unique luxury collections this high French perfumery delves deep into Dali’s world, creating stunning scents that exude the nature and spirit of one of the greatest artists of the history of modern art. The three collections named; The Jewels Collection, The Daligramme Collection and The Fabulous Collection come together to create 17 luxurious scents each with their own special characteristics. From The Fabulous Collection I recently experienced the aptly named, Fabulous Tian Shan.

The Fabulous Tian Shan is a unisex oriental spicy fragrance inspired by the mountainous Tian Shan region in Northern China. This area was an important stop along the silk road and where a spectacular alter is located, dedicated to the worship of the sun. This inspiration is immediately evident on the distinctive fragrance bottle; coated in gleaming gold and embellished with a sculpted sun which is inspired by the 1945 watercolour, Le Roy Soleil by Dali.

The shimmering solar vibe of this fragrance was immediately evident as soon as I applied it to my skin. It almost conjured up images of a morning sun appearing on the horizon and casting its rays on those impressive mountains of Tian Shan. The scent begins with a fresh and invigorating injection of bergamot. Its zesty and fleeting characteristics are reminiscent of the effervescent energy that reverberates from that radiating sunshine. The addition of juniper reveals an aromatic, woody and almost pine like nuance. It is here that I envisage those first rays of sunlight that slink through the needles of the surrounding coniferous forest, their peppery aroma permeating the air.

As those initial vivacious notes dissipate, Tian Shan begins to take on a subtle comforting warmth, unveiling a breath taking flurry of Apple Blossom. Its delicate floral notes cascade across the skin, flaunting its sweet and delicate nature. An elegant canopy of Egyptian Geranium Rose makes an appearance, bringing another facet of sweetness, mingled with its fresh floral and herbaceous subtleties. This stunning floral bouquet begins to transform, taking on a more spicy stance with the inclusion of pink pepper. It is in my experience that this note can often take over a scent but in the case of Tian Shan, it simmers in the background releasing a delicate fresh spice that sits perfectly with the other notes.

The dry down continues with a distinguished fusion of deep woody and amber aromas. Although a subtle freshness ensues, the fragrance takes on an elegant softness, diffused with undulating variations of sweet and balsamic notes. With a composition of Tonka Bean, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Labdanum and Musk, the emanation is a long-lasting, sensual and addictive base. The whole aura of Fabulous Tian Shan feels like you are bathing yourself in nourishing sunlight.

It just takes a glimpse of this fragrance on my shelf with its golden exterior catching the light, to immediately put a smile on my face. This feel good factor along with its delightful plethora of ingredients makes it a definite winner, especially at this time of the year.
